There are very few people who we have the opportunity of meeting in our life journeys that exemplify care and true compassion for their fellow humans. What is absolutely fantastic is that all of us working in Airline Hotels have this very opportunity.
Tony Prytula has worked at the Hilton Garden Inn Saskatoon (HGI) as a senior bellman for the last 28 years. He has this quiet, thoughtful demeanor. It has always been a joy for me to visit with Tony and I have always thought very fondly of him. This year, the Hilton Garden Inn team, under the leadership of Perry Singh (Front Office Manager) and Lynn Flury (General Manager), nominated Tony for the 2015 Hilton Worldwide CEO Light & Warmth Award. This award is for all 4000 Hiltons worldwide. The nomination application was shared with me and as I read what Tony does for guests, fellow associates and strangers, I realized that we truly do have an angel walking amongst us.
Tony listens, watches and then does. He doesn’t have to be told that the front desk needs help – he just steps in when needed. He sees a couple after a long road trip arrive exhausted and with a dirty car and offers to get the car cleaned for them. He volunteers for food drives and the Salvation Army Kettle drive. He has taught his four children the value of giving back as well and they have helped with different volunteer organizations. The nomination went on with many more fantastic examples of the care Tony has.
Tony does not do this for recognition or for extra money. As a matter of fact, he often refuses tips. Tony does this because he realizes the value in truly caring about people and about doing the best possible job one can do.
“I believe when we we pass this earthly world, the only thing left will be the people we have touched in our lives.”
When you read guests’ comments regarding Tony, you know that he has left huge impressions on 1000’s of people who have had the opportunity of meeting him. You know that they walk away a better person because of Tony and this wonderful powerful ripple starts.
The next time you think that you don’t have the resources or influence to make a difference, maybe give Tony a call and I am sure he will share some thoughts with you. No doubt, free of charge!
Perry Singh ended the application with this comment, “In my short time working with Tony, I have learnt that he does not judge each day by the harvest he reaps but by the seeds he plants.”
Congratulations Tony on winning the Hilton Worldwide CEO Light & Warmth Award. You truly are a living example of what we all should try to be.
