The news this last week has been horrific from the States and in Canada! It is mind-boggling how people have so much hatred for someone they have never met. The proverbial question, “why does this happen?” is surfacing more and more. I don’t have the answer, but I will share something I certainly have been thinking about.
I believe our life is a journey from the time we are born until the time we die. I believe this journey is ours to own, nourish life and learn. We are going to experience many hard times and we are going to experience many good times. Life is not meant to be a bed of roses; it is meant to work at making ourselves better people. It is only natural that all of us no matter who we are will experience some lows. It is how we move out of the lows that make the difference.
I have had many of these lows throughout my life and my struggle to move forward has been like trudging through quicksand. However, once I have cleared the mud and muck causing my issues, I move forward to a better and higher level of understanding. I am a reader of self-improvement books and one of the books I read many years ago “feelings Buried Alive Never Die” had me do self -discovery lessons. I didn’t like them because holding the mirror up to have a good look at ourselves sometimes is not pleasant! One of the mantras in the book that we were asked to repeat was, “I am what I am and what I am is wonderful.” Another saying from one of Elizabeth Hayes books says, “I approve of myself.” Both of these sayings have had a powerful influence on my personal growth. Truly loving ourselves is one of the hardest things we need to do in our personal journey. I am a firm believer if we truly love and respect ourselves then there is no need for judgment only room for acceptance. If we are accepting of ourselves then we are of others, then we wouldn’t be hearing about the murders or gossip or the judgment of others. When we hold the mirror up and can truly and honestly say and believe the two quotes then I believe we are accomplishing the true meaning of life.
Zig Ziglar said, “With integrity, you have nothing to fear since you have nothing to hide. With integrity you will do the right thing, so you will have no guilt. With fear and guilt removed you are free to be and do your best.” Hold up the mirror – do you like what you see?
“Life is not meant to be a bed of roses; it is meant to work at making ourselves better people. It is only natural that all of us no matter who we are will experience some lows. It is how we move out of the lows that make the difference.”
