Travelodge Edmonton West Renovations Enhance Guest Experience!

Airline Hotels purchased the Travelodge Edmonton West hotel, located at 18320 Stony Plain Road in Edmonton, Alberta, on March 1, 2013. The hotel is ideal for guests travelling for business or pleasure and is conveniently located just minutes from the West Edmonton Mall, Valley Zoo and downtown. The Travelodge Edmonton West features 215 well-appointed guestrooms, a meeting room, waterpark, fitness centre, on-site Smitty’s Restaurant and amenities such as the business centre, lobby pantry, free Wi-Fi and parking. “Airline Hotels is committed to making improvements in all of our hotels,” says Jaret Waddell, Airline Hotels Chief Operating Officer. “We outpace the industry in capital reinvestment for all of them. When we purchased the Travelodge Edmonton West, we saw the potential.”

Beginning in June 2013, hotel improvements and renovations were underway, such as: replacement of all televisions with High-Definition Flat Panel TV’s, repair and resurfacing of the entire hotel parking lot, upgrading the business centre in the lobby area and the installation of a lobby pantry, where guests can enjoy snacks and essential items for purchase.

“It was important for us to do these renovations,” says Lori Bitinsky, Travelodge Edmonton West General Manager. “We knew from the initial purchase date that it was time to upgrade our product so that we could enhance the experience for our guests. We look forward to welcoming back our loyal guests and inviting new guests to experience the new Travelodge Edmonton West.”

In 2014, over $174,000 was invested in the hotel’s waterpark to repair and maintain this popular attraction and make it a welcoming and enjoyable space for guests. “For the waterpark, we wanted families to enjoy a fun, safe environment where they could check-in and have a mini ‘staycation’ without having to leave the hotel,” says Bitinsky.

A fully-functioning 400 square feet fitness centre was added to the hotel and included a convenient assortment of cardio equipment and weights. “The fitness centre lets our guests who lead an active lifestyle keep their same routine while travelling.”

The exterior of the hotel was refinished, painted and repaired with a modern look to enhance its curbside appeal.

The most significant hotel upgrade since purchasing the property is the renovation of 109 guestrooms in the West Tower in King Standard RoomAugust 2014. Each room received a floor-to-ceiling makeover, including new carpet, paint, lighting, drapery, base heaters, artwork, new headboards with USB charge stations, granite window ledges and bathroom renovations, as well as complete corridor renovations. During this time, all 215 guestrooms in the hotel received a new Keurig coffee machine, microwave, refrigerator and air conditioning unit. Lori Bitinsky adds, “New televisions, fridges and microwaves in the room let our guests feel as comfortable as they are in their own homes.”

In May 2015, the first floor, including the lobby area, was renovated. The front lobby makes a lasting first impression to our guests when staying at the hotel. This $260,000 renovation completely overhauled the front desk area and upgraded the lobby business centre with new furniture, hardware and privacy walls. On the first floor, nineteen guestrooms in the East Tower were renovated and the public washroom had a brand new look with tile floors, tile walls, new vanities, partitions, lighting and urinals. Additionally, a $210,000 modernization was done to the elevator in the West Tower, creating a smoother ride for guests up to their rooms. Internet bandwidth was increased and maximized to accommodate a multitude of devices simultaneously.

Following these upgrades, an Official Grand Opening Ceremony was held at the Travelodge Edmonton West on November 5, 2015.

The total cost of hotel upgrades since the change of ownership on March 1, 2013 has totalled over $3.5 million. Airline Hotels is committed to continuously improving the hotel to enhance our guests’ stay and maintain a positive presence on popular online booking sites such as Trip Advisor.
